Words that you will usually find on betting sites. Hopefully, this will clarify a few facts...

Stake : The amount of money you decide to jeopardize by placing a bet. This is what your opponent will take after an unsuccessful bet.

Profit : The amount of money earned after a successful bet. This is what your opponent loses and what you gain.

Yield : The total amount of money returned after a successful bet. This is the sum of your stake and the profit.

Initial Capital : The amount of money you decide to jeopardize in order to, hopefully, increase it.

Final Capital : The amount of money you will have in your pocket after a bet.

Obviously :

Initial Capital < Final Capital, after a successful bet

Initial Capital > Final Capital, after an unsuccessful bet

The simplest equations:

  • Successful bet : Stake + Profit = Yield

Initial Capital + Yield = Final Capital

  • Unsuccessful bet : Initial Capital - Stake = Final Capital
